Meet Daneka from Beauty And The Bod . She is this weeks inspiring girlboss who is full of heart and all about staying true to who you are.
We met Daneka in Auckland through mutual friends on Instagram. Some of you might remember our Converse x Remix Magazine video? Yep, Daneka styled our hair and make up for the shoot and we can testify she is talented at what she does. Read more about what makes her tick here.
How old are you? I am 27.
How old do you feel? I feel 16 because I am currently living with my fiancé’s parents house. Help.
In two sentences, tell us what you do in the eyes of your dad/mum? I go to the gym and play with people’s hair all day.
In two sentences, tell us what you do from your perspective? Pretty much what my mum and dad would tell you, and yes it is as fun as it sounds! I offer all the treats; spray tanning, make-up, hair styling, hair for weddings, styling for photoshoots and events. I also do haircuts, keratin treatments but I specialize in balyage for the sunkissed babes.
How does your work make you feel? The work I do is extremely rewarding, I feel like I am literally changing lives! Dramatic I know, but it’s true! I love seeing my girls walk out the door with a bounce in their step, feeling super sexy and like they have got it all together!
How did you find your passion? When I was a little girl I was obsessed with my glitter gel and butterfly clips. I always knew I wanted to be a hair stylist. My passion has continued
to grow over the years, the industry has changed and so have I. I left school when I was just 15 and have been in the beauty industry full time ever since. My WHY has remained the same and that’s what fuels my
passion is to help woman feel confident and beautiful every day.
What do you see yourself doing in 5 years time? My dream would be to move back home and own a successful salon in the Mount (Maunganui).
But not JUST a salon, I want to create something that no one has ever done before! Watch this space!
What is your greatest achievement yet? That’s an interesting question… I have won multiple awards and represented NZ in styling teams but I don’t base my achievements and my successes on what I have done, I base it on how I feel, how rich my life is and how happy I am. I feel a great sense of achievement when I look back on my life and am proud of the steps I have taken to bring me to my greatest days yet.
What is your motivation to get up every morning and push beautyandthebod? My motivation behind beauty and the bod is to impact and inspire woman of all ages! I truly believe with all my heart that we are the queens of this earth, we deserve to be loved cared for and listened to. We also deserve to feel beautiful and carry the confidence we deserve.
This is where I feel I am fulfilling my purpose, when I can speak into woman’s lives encourage them and make sure that they know that they are enough and they are worthy of it all!
What advice would you give a girlboss wanting to start out for themselves? Write down your goals, create a plan and take steps towards actually doing it! There is no time to waste. We have the power to create a life we desire. We get up every morning and make decisions to grow us or stagger us. I truly believe that anything is possible and if you believe you can achieve. You need hard work, determination and a ‘never give up attitude’ which will help get you through but most importantly you need to know your WHY behind it
all and have amazing people in your life who support you & believe in your dreams just as much as you do!
Don’t let negative experiences or past failures determine your future. Eyes forward always! Strong heart. Strong mind. Just go out there and do it!
Do you have any regrets and if so what are they and why?
I have no regrets because I believe that every decision I have made and every experience I have been through negative or positive I have learnt from. It’s built my character and bought me to where I am today. Life is to short to have regrets it only weighs you down!
What would you be doing if you weren’t a hairdresser/make up artist?
I am also a fully qualified personal trainer so if I wasn’t hairdressing I would still be making woman feel amazing but in the gym!
